This unique skiing game provides all of the thrills and chills associated with such an amazing sport.

ORF Ski Challenge offers players the unique blend of training and realistic competition. This 2010 version enables avid fans of this sport to enjoy scenery found in Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the United States. The background graphics are quite impressive as is the ability for the player to choose certain variables such as weather conditions. Different courses can also be selected depending upon the level of difficulty that one desires during a practice or a competition.

Two Playing Modes

One benefit of ORF Ski Challenge is that there are two unique modes that can be enjoyed during game play. Those who are new to this virtual sport are able to choose a practice session. These sessions can last for as long as one wishes or until he or she is comfortable testing their skills against a real-world opponent. ORF Ski Challenge is able to be accessed by many from across the Internet. As opposed to competing against one's previous score or the computer, real-world races will take place that involve other fans. So, there is much more of a "personal" feel to this game when compared to traditional platforms.

Graphics

The graphics are not too impressive but are still considered adequate for 2010 levels. Most are less concerned with visual attributes as they are with the ability to control the skier and hone their skills. The fact that the character is relatively easy to manipulate is another positive attribute. There will not be much of a difficult learning curve. Still, it should be noted here that the competitions can be quite challenging; particularly for those who may be new to the sport. This is the main reason why the training mode can prove to be quite handy.

System Requirements

ORF Ski Challenge can be played on most Windows operating systems including Windows 7 and Windows 8. At least one gigabyte of processing power is recommended as well as 512 megabytes of free memory (RAM). At a size of only 45 megabytes, the file should not place too much strain upon older computers. A minimum of the Direct X 8.0 video codec helps to graphics to display properly.

Pros

  • Different game modes
  • Impressive physics
  • A quick learning curve

Cons

  • Training can become repetitive over time
  • Competitions are difficult
